Description
Steven draws on many scriptures in this picture which explores Jesus’ role as the sacrificial lamb at the crucifixion. Mary’s sorrow and the lily of the valley show the poignancy of the event which changed history.
“He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.” Isaiah 53:7
