Road to Emmaus by James Martin

I painted this for Easter 2021. It is a reflection on the Road to Emmaus story told in Luke 24, 13 – 35. The impact of Luke’s account told with fascinating detail, reminds us of the unparallelled force and eternal significance of the Easter story. This is true of the story as a whole and of the appearances of the risen Christ in particular. This painting is intended to be one of a series.”      James Martin

The verses in Luke 24:13-35 were James’ inspiration for this picture. Now that same day two of them were going to a village called Emmaus, about seven miles from Jerusalem. They were talking with each other about everything that had happened. As they talked and discussed these things with each other, Jesus himself came up and walked along with them; but they were kept from recognizing him.” (Verses 13-16)

You can see a short video in which James talks about his painting here.
