My heart is like a bird in your hands by Lois Thompson

“I created this painting after the death of my husband in January 2020.

The colour palette of warm blues and greens with muted earth colours and soft purple heathers evokes peace, comfort and hope.  The blue tit resting in the hand has either been injured or hurt. It is safely held but not restrained.  Maybe it is well enough to fly away and the one above is flying down to lead the way to freedom. Or maybe the second bird is coming in for comfort, rest and healing too. Both are connected to the wide open space, with the expanse of open water in the distance.  The undergrowth is dense and the natural path could be an old river bed.  The hand is like that of a gardener, workmanlike yet tender.

This painting expresses how vulnerable and broken I felt, and how I knew that the only safe place was resting in the hands of the Father. He understood everything and loved me and carried me through it all.

A group of people with special needs who saw the painting immediately saw the connection with safety and peace and one noted that the bird colours identified with the Ukrainian flag at the start of the current conflict.”   Lois Thompson

Then Jesus said to his disciples: “Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; or about your body, what you will wear. For life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds! Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life?”   Luke 12 :22-25

The painting is oil on canvas. The canvas size is 80cm by 70cm. If purchased, it will be sent out from the UK.
