“This painting shows the Holy Spirit as part of the creative act of creation described in Genesis chapter 1.

He is hovering over the waters, before light is created. I wanted to convey the darkness but wanted to portray it as a darkness of richness and energy.

I used a palate knife to apply layers of phthalo green, quinacridone magenta, cobalt and coeruleum blue, before covering those with repeated layers of cobalt.

The symbolic dove of the Holy Spirit appears smooth and sleek against the background.”          Sue Newham
