“This painting came from my own musings about prayer. The eagle, who represents the power majesty and freedom of God, is turning His head to listen to the women flying on its back. She is safely nestling into His feathers but there is no doubt that this is freedom and adventure. She is confiding in him, in intimate relationship, as they fly high above the sea and air currents. No one else hears the whispers which transpire between them. The eagle can change direction as He responds to her and she implicitly trusts Him. The soft cloud vapours make the atmosphere warm and humid and the land masses appear far below. I saw this picture in my mind’s eye and then I wrote the poem. The painting has a narrative quality to it and a prophetic quality too.” Lois Thompson
