Bread and Wine by Jean Mintoft

“I have always felt that Communion is not just a remembrance of Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross. It is a rite which imparts the real spiritual presence of Jesus when it is received in faith. I know from personal experience how vital it can be to take the bread and wine when going through difficult times. The presence of Jesus can truly strengthen and uphold us, as we eat the bread and drink the wine. The phrase from the Anglican liturgy, “Feed on him in your heart by faith with thanksgiving” is very precious to me. I was inspired to paint the bread and wine in the style of a stained glass window after seeing the wonderful modern glowing stained glass window in Buckfast Abbey, Devon.” Jean Mintoft

“The Lord Jesus, on the night he was betrayed, took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and said, “This is my body, which is for you; do this in remembrance of me.” In the same way, after supper he took the cup, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood; do this, whenever you drink it, in remembrance of me.” For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.”  1 Corinthians 11 : 23-26
