“The story of Jesus in the Garden of Gethsemane is very powerful to me. Apart from paintings of Jesus on the cross, you do not often see his face without looking holy or peaceful. The painting to me represents the whole story of how He cried out to God, asked to be relieved of this burden, waited for the betrayal and stared at death in the face.  I wanted to portray the stress and grief in His eyes. They stare directly at us, so we each feel the connection.”             Olivia Smith
