The anointing by Diane Fairfield

The verse on the back of the card reads,You anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely your goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” Psalm 23 : 5-6

The practice of rubbing oil mixed with other ingredients onto the heads and backs of sheep to prevent parasitic flies and scab was common in Old Testament times and continues today amongst shepherds.

Stand firm by Mark Wiggin

The verse on the back of the greetings card reads, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”    Psalm 46:1

Mark says, “This painting is based on a Hawthorn tree growing among the granite rocks of a Dartmoor tor. It has to endure a harsh environment with extreme cold and winds. And yet God provides the tree with sufficient shelter, rain and sunshine. A reminder for us that God will provide for all our needs in every situation.”

Jesus in Gethsemane by Shawn Alyea

“The inspiration came into my spirit as I was thinking about Gethsemane. I saw a flash of gold and bronze on a profile of a hooded Christ. I sketched it quickly and felt the need to add a tree both macabre and comforting as Christ reflects on what is to come (Matthew 26:38). The moon boils. The tree is partially stripped of its bark to predict the cross to come. The branches reach to our Lord in an embrace as if to comfort, and bloom with life in his presence. The picture combines the horror of crucifixion, the joy of resurrection, and the glory of the promised bride.”   Shawn Alyea

The verse on the back of the greetings card reads, ““Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”  Luke 22 : 42

Christ in the desert by Shawn Alyea

I wanted to show the human and vulnerable side of our Lord. He is facing hardship, yet his expression is peaceful. He sits quietly in the desert, clutching his wrist to stay warm as a large moon lights the darkness around him. His clothing is plain, almost mixing in with the colours of the sand. He has a halo that is almost imperceptible and lines his body, again focusing more on his humanity rather than his divine attributes. I hope you can enter into his presence as you gaze upon Christ in the desert (Luke 4:1-2). Shawn Alyea

The verse on the back of the greetings card reads, “Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.” Hebrews 2 : 18

The image is inspired by the passage in Revelation 5 which describes golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. Our prayers are precious to God and He hears them all.

New day dawning by Colin Joseph Burns

The verse on the back of the greetings card reads, “The whole earth is filled with awe at your wonders; where morning dawns, where evening fades, you call forth songs of joy.” Psalm 65 : 8

“The inspiration comes from Psalm 19, “He has placed a tent for the sun. Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber.” The sun is rising at the start of the day and is enveloped by a “tent” as described in the Psalms. There is a sense of looking forward to the day with hope  as the sun brings light and warmth. The sun is a symbol of Jesus Christ, the true light.” Colin Joseph Burns

Not a mistake by Amanda Steel

The verse on the back of the greetings card reads, “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight.”  Ephesians 1 : 4

“Our DNA comes from our parents and many of our physical, emotional and mental characteristics are from family members, but is this all we are? The Bible says that our spirits are completely unique, designed and created by God long before anyone else knows of our existence.  I wanted to illustrate in my painting that no one is a mistake. Maybe your conception and birth wasn’t planned by your parents.  Maybe you feel insignificant and lost or unnoticed in a big world. But you were lovingly and deliberately crafted by God, who did plan your birth and has a purpose for your life.  You were carefully created to love and be loved by him.”

The power and the glory by Rebecca Newell

“After a bad weekend, I started to paint a tranquil picture to calm my thoughts and focus on God. When I finished, I realised  that I had not painted a God of serenity but an awesome, powerful, BIG God! The same awesome, powerful  God who has the grace and patience to listen to my fears and complaints and to show me the way out of them!”  Becky Newell
