Wedding at Cana by Rosemarie Adcock
The painting depicts Jesus’ first miracle when He turned water into wine. I wanted to focus on what it must have been like for the wedding party, the humiliated groom who had no more wine to serve his guests, and the stunned faces of the onlookers.
People who see the painting usually ask about the groom, or about Mary who is seated at the right end of the table, looking at a spilled glass of wine, a symbol of the blood of her Son soon to be spilled out for all mankind.
Sometimes people pose before this painting, as it is somewhat large, and subsequent photographs give the appearance that they are sitting at the table. This is a painting of a very happy time in our Lord’s life, the delight of answered prayer, the surprise of God’s miraculous intervention in the little things in our lives, which at the moment of need are never little.
