Help! Sending canvases abroad.

Tagged in: none

Hi,

I’m Jo. Very new to all this. Does anyone have advice with getting block canvas’s sent abroad? I’ve been told to remove it from the frame and send it rolled in bubble wrap and brown paper, instead of a tube (because it’s acrylic and could melt)? Is this a possibility and what has your experience been? I’d love some feed back and help.

Look forward to your responses,

Jo Barltrop

Amazing Christian artists

Tagged in: none

Dear Everyone,

I have just seen an amazing piece of perfomance art on this Youtube link, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=svL1GuxxpvA

Marc Eckel paints Jesus’ face large, live and with his hands! It is very inspiring.

Let me know if you come across any really inspiring Christian art examples.

Creative role models

Tagged in: none

Who are your role models when it comes to creating as a Christian?

I find Rouault an inspiration for the way he combines compassion and critique, Chagall for the way in which reconciliation informs every aspect of his work from content through to construction, Albert Herbert for the freedom and depth of his style and imagery, Norman Adams for the vibrancy of his use of colour, and John Reilly for the way in which he depicts the oneness and unity of God’s invisible power binding all things into one whole.

Art in the Church Building?

Tagged in: none

There are three paintings at the very front of my church that might be covered up.  One is of Christ and the others are possibly Moses and Elijah.  I think they were painted in the 1920s and are in a sort of realistic figurative style.  The debate over whether they should be there involves issues such as could they be related to idol worship, or is it helpful to have paintings in the church?  Would a church hall be a more appropriate setting as people won’t be distracted during the worship service?  Should they remain if they are important parts of a historical building?  How should Jesus be portrayed in art?  Please let me know what you think.

Are art and beauty synonymous?

Tagged in: none

Are art and beauty synonymous from the Christian perspective? – that is the question. It is a commonly-held view amongst Christians that art has to be beautiful. Interestingly, Jon Thatcher, bassist to Delirious, said as much in his interview published in the latest edition of the Veritasse Magazine –“Art is always about creating something beautiful. I wonder if it is heretical to challenge this point of view?

Can paintings of the crucifixion ever be ‘beautiful’? They may be extraordinarily well painted with exquisite brush strokes and a perfect balance of colour and form.

Originals versus prints

Tagged in: none

What do you think about this issue? I know some people think that prints flood the market and devalue original works of art. Others feel that prints are a way of making art accessible to people in all income brackets. I would like to hear your views.
