Happy New Year to you all! I am really looking forward to meeting some of you at the Gathering in Monmouth on 22nd and 23rd May.
If there are any artists who are not members, they are welcome to come along.
The aim is to meet up, look at artwork, get some input from an arts guest speaker and just generally to get to know each other. It is likely that we will also discuss how we want these and other events to develop in the future. It is possible that there may be a group exhibition possibility in Birmingham in 2010. Please come with your artwork, ideas and diaries! Let Jo Field or Sue Newham know if you are interested. They can be contacted through their on-line galleries.

    Hi Sue,

happy new year to you and all the other artisans on Veritasse.

I noticed I was unable to respond directly to your or any other posts, is this a new feature where you have to log on and start a new chat, or is it a new year glitch? (Not a criticism, just a observation). Look forward to hearing what everyone’s been up to over the Christmas period and what people have coming up this new year, but especially where the Lord is going lead each of us and how! Very exciting! God bless everyone.

Wouldn’t you know it! I write the above and behold a response box appears!

I’m afraid that I’m having a bit of trouble with allowing comments. It seems as if I have enabled them, and then the comment box disappears! I must keep my eye on it more! Sorry to anyone who has tried to add a comment and been locked out. Admin

Hi. Hoping to make a change this year. I have not been at all businesslike in my approach to what I do for quite a while, and this has to be different. I think I have trouble believing that I am actually an artist. Anything to do with trying to make money seems to be make-believe.

  6. Stephie Griffiths Says:

Hi Gisella, taking a businesslike approach is often very difficult for us artists, as it’s frequently not in our makeup, we’re all too busy being creative! Joining Veritasse is my first step towards selling my Christian art. I find the business side of being an Artist hard going, but it’s always nice when you sell a painting and can go out and purchase more canvasses and paints!!! Good luck with your artwork Gisella. Regards, Stephie

  7. Sue N Says:

    Hello Gisella and Stephie,
It is tricky to be business minded, because any “spare” time always seems to be spent betterby actually doing the artwork rather than promoting it!
I too have taken a step forward this year by having one of my paintings printed for the first time! I’ve never dabbled in prints before, so this is very much an experiment. I’m not going to pay for a stock of prints though, I’ve agreed with the printer for him to set it up as a print ready file, so that I can have one or two printed as people request them. I know each print will be more expensive that way, but I just haven’t got the money to tie it up in a stock of prints. In any case, my spare room is filling up with canvases, both completed and new!
I know what you mean, Gisella, about believing that you are an artist. It has taken me about 5 years to get to that point of calling myself an artist. Joining Veritasse as an artist member was the first step I took and I have not regretted it. Just joining was like agreeing with God that he had given me an artistic gift and that I was going to use it. He seems to have opened up all sorts of opportunities from there. It’s a very exciting journey.
May God bless you both. Sue

Bless you Sue, you are so encouraging and thoughtful, Veritasse is lucky to have you. Is there any chance you could give me some more info. on arranging to print one’s work, as I’m just about to venture down that route and need some direction. Do they photograph your work, or do they rely on you to provide the photo? How much does it cost etc, what size will they print?

    Stephie

  9. Sue N Says:

    Dear Stephie,
Hold on to your socks! The set up cost was £80 for professional photography, preparation of the print file and printing of a proof print. The actual prints will cost £23 each for A2 size, if I have them printed one at a time; slightly less if I have larger quantities done. I don’t intend to do that though, because I don’t want to (and can’t afford to) tie up money in stock which might end up sitting in my spare bedroom for years!
The printer I am using is one I trust and had a working relationship with through other printing jobs. I am sure I could get it done cheaper, but I feel happy that they are going to do a good job and will give me good service.
My printer will set up a print file from a photograph sent in by an artist, but it would have to be very good quality to make it really worthwhile. I think the set up was about £20 in that case.
I hope that information is useful to you.
    Best wishes,
    Sue
