With the huge number of Reality TV programs now on TV, from dancing/singing competitions, to voyeurism of Big Brother, do we think there is a place for Christians? I am looking for two answers:
Should a Christian watch these programmes “in order to witness” to those at work who discuss these programmes?
Should a Christian be part of these programmes, actually go on the TV like Gareth Gates did?
My point is, should we as artists be following the overall trends in Culture to add our viewpoint to the debates? As artists we are able to do this?

I have to say that I don’t generally watch these programmes- a lack of time and interest combined, I guess, but when I watched “The Apprentice” for one series, I found it quite addictive, so I can see why people get so involved in reality shows.
I have wondered whether I lose a valuable starting point for conversations by not watching these things. They all touch on areas of morality, so there is plenty of scope for “spiritual” issues coming out of them. I don’t think that it is entirely wrong for Christians to watch “Big Brother”, but I just wouldn’t want to do it.
I have thought about whether a Christian would be able to witness by being on the show. I just feel that the viewing audience vote according to the possibility of future excitement and titillation, rather than making judgements about a person’s character. I don’t think a Christian would last beyond the first few votes in the Big Brother house.
