Rosemarie Adcock

I paint biblically-inspired subjects with vivid colour and symbolic elements that imply theological content in flora, figures, fish or animals. I love to use painting in the same way as Jesus used parables to teach theological truths, or to place biblical events in an historic context, relying on the biblical text for information.  My reliance on God’s Word to guide the content of my painting is not unlike my reliance on God’s Word to guide all of life. My paintings are a tool of communicating the Gospel, God’s redemptive work throughout history. This is such a reflection of His redemptive work in my own life, guiding me as He does in my work, I am so profoundly blessed to use the beauty of colour and form to communicate the beauty of God. As much as I am impassioned for the work of His Church, I am called to serve as a painter. My work is one way I worship Him.

Wedding at Cana by Rosemarie Adcock

The painting depicts Jesus’ first miracle when He turned water into wine. I wanted to focus on what it must have been like for the wedding party, the humiliated groom who had no more wine to serve his guests, and the stunned faces of the onlookers.

Additional DescriptionMore Details

People who see the painting usually ask about the groom, or about Mary who is seated at the right end of the table, looking at a spilled glass of wine, a symbol of the blood of her Son soon to be spilled out for all mankind. Sometimes people pose before this painting, as it is somewhat large, and subsequent photographs give the appearance that they are sitting at the table. This is a painting of a very happy time in our Lord’s life, the delight of answered prayer, the surprise of God’s miraculous intervention in the little things in our lives, which at the moment of need are never little.
