Life Line

Jen Smith
I work creatively because I can do no other. God has given me a talent, which laid dormant for 40 years and was awakened when I retired. I completed my degree in Fine Art in 2010.
My work includes Land Art, Photography, painting, and some installation works. I like texture and am inspired by the works of Anselm Keifer, and Antoni Tapier.
I work in mixed media and like to incorporate earthy substances in my painting. I may use sand, plaster, calcium carbonate, textiles, glue, and anything else that is appropriate. I may also use pigment with glue as well as paint.
My work is inspired partly by the natural world I see around me but I also use Biblical text as a starting point.
Life Line by Jen Smith
Life line is a land art work and was created in 2006 on Ynyslas Beach between tides. It was temporary and what is left is the photographic print of the work.
The verse on the back of the greetings card reads, "I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full." John 10 : 10
At the time I was exploring the correlation between the aging process in man and the weathering of the land. This was not about creation but led on to other works, interpreting the text of Genesis. As I was creating the work many people came up to me on the beach and asked about it. The print has caused some interest as it can play with perspective and perception when it is rotated.
