The Holy Spirit and the bride by Emma Pilkington

Emma Pilkington“I was diagnosed with manic depression at 17. After a life “crash” at the age of 27 I invited the Holy Spirit to take possession of me completely; and so began my walk with Him as a Christian artist.

Over 30 years I have consistently made art. Spending time with the Father in a contemplative way has birthed ideas which have seemed impossible until, in prayer, I receive understanding of the method as well. God has faithfully provided studios, spaces for exhibition, awards, grants, a residency and one person shows. I feel free to explore and not worry about making a living at art. This has been a generous gift from God and those around me. My family and church community have given constant encouragement.

The world needs images of purity. My aim as an artist is to be God’s instrument.” Emma Pilkington

Glory to the Risen Lord by Emma Pilkington

The verse which is on the back of the greetings card is, "Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!" Luke 24 : 5

"At our church, we have a Good Friday meditation service. In 2017, I painted this picture. It is unusual in including a host of angels. Many prophetic words have sprung from this picture to encourage our church. Up till now, the picture has not been widely seen and I hope it is an encouragement to others too." Emma Pilkington

The Holy Trinity and the bride by Emma Pilkington

The verse on the back of the greetings card reads, "As a bridegroom rejoices over his bride, so will your God rejoice over you." Isaiah 62 : 5
"Last summer our church held a tent mission on Eelbrook Common. I received the idea for this image in prayer before the event and painted it live over the two days. Many people were encouraged by it and found it interesting and inspiring. Some asked why Jesus had a Jewish prayer shawl. Others wanted to know who "The Bride" was. It felt like a really easy way to talk about the Christian faith. Many people from other countries live in the area and were intrigued by the middle eastern feel of the picture."                      Emma Pilkington

Worship by Emma Pilkington

The verse on the back of the greetings card reads, "Give to the Lord the glory due to his name; worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness." Psalm 29 : 2

"On this occasion I started thinking of Noah releasing the dove from the ark. When I began painting,  the painting felt like a worship context with the Holy Spirit attracted to a worshipping congregation. I returned later to define the hands and dove but this was essentially a rapidly painted picture." Emma Pilkington
