I want to paint because it is something I have always done; it is a natural part of my life. I love to paint all kinds of things but am most pleased perhaps when there is a synergy between my art and faith. I love to tell stories in the work that I produce and enjoy them most when they are perhaps a little bit ambiguous. I love to be involved with strong drawing and strong light; for me everything is about the light.

The Magnificat is a wonderful declaration of faith and trust and I imagined Mary caught up in the moment of realisation and wonderment. A young girl, no older than 16, perhaps 14 chosen to take on such a daunting and amazing role.
