What can we learn from each other?

CANA stands for Christian Artists Networking Association
I want to use this initial blog posting as a way of reaching out and connecting with art makers in different places and spaces.
I love the opportunities afforded by networking and social media, but I also love the fact that art is rooted in local traditions and often capitalizes on spaces and gaps . It hinges on subtlety, suggested relationships and felt differences. I want to begin some conversations that creatively exploit these opportunities while exploring these roots.
CANA stands for Christian Artists Networking Association…..and you can read our story so far here.
We are connected to artists, media workers and thoughtful creatives all over the world. Please join the conversation.
When I took over CANA there was a print newsletter ( I DO have a couple archived and available as pdfs on request) and a (air and snail)mailing list of uncertain province…. Many letters came back, undelivered. I began to ask myself if there was a better way of networking/connecting to the people in the CANA database. Meanwhile, over the last few years there has been a digitally driven revolution in connectedness and communication. I am asking myself and others: how can we do a better job of engaging, connecting and empowering artists in different parts of the world?
We are currently partnering with two UK arts groups on an event called Run with the fire. This `digital’ exhibition of international art will be on display along with the artwork of local communities……all this designed to resonate with the Pentecost season and the Olympic events. You can read more about Run with the fire, and how you/your community can get involved on the Veritasse site.
What about yourself?? Who are you? Are you an artist? Are you involved in missions and media? I would like a conversation with you……..Perhaps you can shed some light on the way forward…….
For me, it breaks (initially) down to two questions:
How can we make the best use of the expanding global communications network?
And
How can we best serve those artists and communities that do NOT have ready access to computers and the internet?
…and so begins the journey/conversation ……
